Anyone in the world
Well on Friday I was diverted on my from Oklahoma to Las Vegas.

I ended up staying in Salt Lake City.

And I have to say, it seemed a fairly dull and uninspiring place - and rather ugly - even for an American city. It was much bigger than I thought though.

Anyway, I'm now in Las Vegas, and went to see Rita Rudner last night - a very funny lady still, the show was worth every penny / cent. Highly recommended.

This week I have been in the USA at the Moodle Moot in Oklahoma.

I'd been told lots of bad things about Oklahoma, but I thought it was OK.
People were generally polite, and helpful.

The Moot was great!
Good to meet Patrick Malley (a new Moodle Partner and Themes guru).
Also Alicia Wyatt finally!

Tonight I am however in Salt Lake City and not Vegas which is where I should be - not by choice.

OK, so we are a Moodle Partner.
But do people really think we are some type of 'charity'?
(Maybe they do!?)
I get emails similar to these two below every single day, so please don't be offended if I don't answer yours.
Yes, we DO things for free.
Take a look at www.openicdl.org as an example - the development work on this single project is probably over $100,000 - and no-one even notices.
A question like this should be posted in a community forum (somewhere) but not emailed to a person directly smile

"Dear sir:
Could you tell me How to achieve the "SSO" in "Moodle"? (It means that people can log-in to moodle throught other website)
How can i make this by "php" or "asp"...?
Thankyou.

Recently I drove from Auckland to Paihia, and stopped for a 'pit stop' in Whangarei.
I hadn't rejoined the road for more than a minute whan i was pulled over by a police car.
What could be the reason I thought?
Did he think I turned a corner too quickly?
So, I got out, and he said "You haven't been wearing your seat belt."
I said "Yes I have, I've just taken it off to get out and talk to you!"
He said, "No you didn't."
I was confused.
Then thought..., oh, maybe I didn't re-do my seat belt after stopping for the toilet?
I explained this.
Now HERE is the point...
Police officers are really (well) trained to spot when someone is lying.
So, this officer would have known by my voice, eyes, body language, and everything else that I had genuinely thought I had my seat belt on, and that I had only gone a couple of hundred feet.
So, what would be the sensible thing to do?
In a sane world it would be for the officer to warn me, and remind me to be more careful.
And I would be.
But NO.
A fine of $150. Yes, $150.
To put this into perspective... a friend of mine was caught speeding around 15kph over the limit. Her fine? $80.
So, it seems that not wearing a seat belt (endangering myself?) is more of a crime that speeding and potentially harming others.
Ultimately it says one thing.
Policing in New Zealand is about MAKING MONEY first, and actual safety second.
And that is a real shame.
Actually, it's worse, it's absolutely disgusting.
There are people being murdered in New Zealand.
There are hundreds of drugs related crimes.
The domestic violence and abuse figures are shockingly high.
- - - but you can't make money out of solving those can you - - -
NZ Police will never get voluntary cooperation from me while they continue to work this way.
(And this incident happened a few hundred yards from the last "infringement" when an officer said I could have braked for an orange light, and that wasn't true either because HE made it through the orange light after me!).

My friend works in a Pharmacy.
So she made me a medical pack (usually reserved for the old and the mad).
But she filled it full of sweets!
Cool.
And even did the labels up correctly...

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term "Web 2.0" describes the changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aim to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web.

Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-culture communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies.

The term first became notable after the O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004. Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but rather to changes in the ways software developers and end-users utilize the Web.

According to Tim O'Reilly:
Tim O'reilly
“Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as a platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform.”

O'Reilly has said that the "2.0" refers to the historical context of web businesses "coming back" after the 2001 collapse of the dot-com bubble, in addition to the distinguishing characteristics of the projects that survived the bust or thrived thereafter.
