We've been playing with Mahara, Elgg, and a couple of other e-portfolio applications this year. Miriam will now be taking over the Mahara side, and I'll be taking over the Elgg and Exabis side.
Well Google announced that they won't be continuing Google Wave. And that's a smart decision. It was slow, ugly, too complicated, and ultimately unnecessary. In fact, the only people that should have been considering using it were the people who only use Google search engine, use GMail, use Google Docs, use Chrome, ...etc. Do you see the pattern here? Yes, some people, and sadly these are often my colleagues who should know better(!), just seem to adopt technology without evaluating it. Talk about "jumping on the bandwagon". Six months ago I was reading Blogs from friends and 'clever people' who said Google Wave would change the world. Sadly they never thought further than the Google Wave promotional video. It's a sad day, because I am confronted again by the realisation that most people are sheep

Well, it's the final day here at the Moodle Moot AU 2010 here in Melbourne. Last night's conference dinner was great - good food, catch-up with a few well-known Moodlers and dancing. I almost feel 'old-fashioned' with my 15" Apple MacBook Pro. Many people are using small netbooks. In addition, many of these are running Linux - cool ! And of course there are a few iPads.
Well, day two has been quite interesting so far. Martin's Moodle 2.0 presentation was much better than the one he gave at the New Zealand Moodle Moot in April - simply because so much more of Moodle 2.0 is now working more reliably.

I can't believe I didn't make a blog entry about the Moodle Moot. Just re-affirms in my mind that I am not a blogger personality. And also that I was just too busy with other stuff. But Moodle Moot NZ10 was really great, at Christchurch this year, and Nick Ford was an awesome venue coordinator - very self-assured and calm (just what we need!). And who knew he was such a good guitarist ? Great to see 200+ people including the guys from Moodlerooms (Moodle Partner) in the USA, and a group from University of the South Pacific (HQ Fiji). We did get some negative feedback about one or two sessions - but I am really happy that people feel able to approach me and give this. I just wish more people would get involved up front - to influence the programme more actively. C'est la vie!
I guess I must be a geek deep down because I love the idea of Electric Sheep.
It's collaborative electric art - basically when your computer goes to sleep it communicates with others running Electric Sheep and creates morphing patterns (known as Sheep). Users can vote for favourite sheep, and so the herd develops - some grow and change, and some die.
Available for Mac, Linux, and Windows, the website is worth a visit if only to see some of the sheep movies. There's a phrase I never though I would write...

Well, I thought it was supposed to get quieter towards the end of the year, but November and December have been really busy - which is great for business, but I am really looking forward to January when I can concentrate on some development work instead !

Well, when you agree to be an Ascilite sponsor early-on, and buy the USB memory sticks for everyone, it's a very frustrating outcome when the USB sticks are printed without our logo on them !!! I'm not going to blog my complete thoughts in this issue.
